I am the mid-day personality for Hot 106 in Providence. You can hear me weekdays (and Saturdays!) from 10a-2p. I am also the promotions & marketing director for the station.
2. What accomplishments are you most proud of, thus far?
I am really proud of the brand I have built for myself…specifically my Rhody Radar column created a few years ago when I worked for my sister station WPRO. It’s a weekly column that’s featured on hot1063.com I track celebrities spotted in RI, report on local people making news on the national scene, etc. I’m also proud of some of the celebrity interviews I’ve done (Meredith Vieiria, Mario Lopez, countless Real Housewives etc.)
3. What or who inspires you?
That’s tough. The 2013 “from worst to first” Boston Red Sox inspire me. My mom, a breast cancer survivor, and my dad continually inspire me. I’m inspired by my creative co-workers and I’m inspired by anyone who refuses to settle for anything less than what they deserve.
4. Do you have a particular part of your career you’d consider your favorite, if so, what is it?
I get a rush out of reporting breaking entertainment news on-air or online or both. When I see people furiously clicking for my content or calling me to respond to what I “just said” I feel gratification. There is nothing like immediate response to my content. I also love when people share or retweet my content.
5. Who was the most interesting person you met while working on your show?
When celebs (actors, musicians, reality stars, wrestlers etc) come in-studio or into the building I’m always interested to see how they interact with their “handlers” or people who are their management, record reps etc. I’m always fascinated to see that relationship unfold. One Real Housewife that came in was so helpless and mean to her assistant while another didn’t even bring anyone with her; just her husband. One rapper showed up in pajamas (at 5pm) and one reality star asked me if I had any wine (it was 11am.) I know I got away from the question but it’s more like “interesting moments” over interesting people. Oh. The day I met Diddy was interesting. I’ll go with him then.
6. What keeps you motivated?
In media, especially radio, it is SO important to stay relevant. It is so important to seperate yourself. I realize how blessed I am that I’ve been able to work in this business. I stay motivated because my passion also happens to be my job. I’m also motivated when I see other people my age make their dreams come true and reach their goals. It makes me want to work harder.
7. What is your favorite quote?
I have two. “One can never consent to creep when one feels an impulse to soar.”- Helen Keller (I used it in my high school yearbook) and “You sold my dead bird to a blind kid?!”-Dumb & Dumber
8. What are you working on NOW?
I had a great convo with Jersey Shore creator Sally Ann Salsano last week. She has three brand new reality shows that premiere this week! I’m cutting up the interview so I can play back the same day her shows air.
9. What are your ultimate goals?
I’d love to stay in radio. Maybe get on a morning show someday. I’d love to be able to say I’m a “media triple threat”; radio, TV and print.
10. What is one piece of advice you would give to others hoping to pursue a career in radio/broadcast?
INTERN and start getting into the habit of overly consuming entertainment and pop culture news NOW…or if you’re going into sports and/or hard news start pretending like you have a show to prep for today-even if you don’t. Get into the rhythm now so you can never get out of it. NEVER burn bridges. This business is incestuous (excuse the term) but chances are your future boss might have known your intern supervisor and all it takes is a bad reputation to prevent you from pursuing your goals in this industry.
11. Since Allure and Cure embraces some guilty pleasure, What is YOUR guilty pleasure?
Binge watching TV shows and indulging in foods that are the opposite of “clean.”
12.What health and wellness habits are most important in your life?
I try and workout 2-3 days a week. Obviously id like to try and work out more. I find working out an incredibly beneficial stress reliever. I am about to begin training for my second 5k in the spring. I try to drink plenty of water and limit my caffeine intake. I try and take good care of my skin; specifically my face!
