A serving of oatmeal can be one of the most nutritious and filling breakfasts to fuel your day. Although it is filling traditional oatmeal is not always very tasty and satisfying. That is probably why flavored oatmeal’s are such a hit! Those tastier pre-flavored oatmeal’s come at a cost , though, with unhealthy added sugars sometimes at 16g per serving or more. Women are supposed to consume only 25g a day max, SO in that Apple Spice Oatmeal your enjoying more than half of what you should be consuming in sugars all day at breakfast alone!
In an effort to avoid added sugars as much as possible this is my favorite way to PIMP my home style oatmeal (zero grams of sugar!) with tasty fruit and naturally occurring sugars.
Here is what I use:
Sweet Cacao Nibs
Toasted Coconut Flakes
I like to pour the boiling water right over the oatmeal and cacao mixture together so the cacao nibs melt a bit giving the oatmeal a chocolate flavor. I then sprinkle a significant amount of cinnamon (because I LOVE it) and mix all together. Once I have a good mixture there I place the blueberries on top, sprinkle a few of coconut flakes and a very light drizzle of almond butter and there you have it; Your very own flavorful satisfying oatmeal breakfast without the high volume of added sugars. (Oh and it is super tasty!)
Oatmeal actually is a great breakfast that is fun to experiment with. Each day you can add new flavors that suit you. There are many ways to diversify your breakfast with oatmeal as the staple!
