Shopping can be so stressful! You have made your way to nearly every store, bought some amazing new clothes, and spent maybe a little too much money. Oh well. Still, some inner voice is beckoning you to check out that last store. Part of you hopes there is nothing you like because you already bought so much but then, ah-hah, there it is. Another piece you cannot live without! But can you? No, yes, no yes. BUY IT, leave it, don’t let someone else have it, do I really need this? We all go through this. When struggling with whether or not to buy something there are 3 essential questions I ask myself that makes the decision for me.
1. How many items do I ALREADY OWN that can go with this?
If I need to go out and buy something to go along with this piece, leave it.
2. Do I ALREADY own something similar?
If so, leave it!
3. Do I ALREADY have a time and place in mind to wear this?
Maybe if I have the perfect occasion lined up that I know this piece would work with, I will go for it! I might regret not buying it when this time comes. If there is no appropriate occasion in the near future, sorry, leave it.
Only when all 3 of these questions are answered in favor of the purchase do I make it. Otherwise, I cut my losses and leave it behind. I would rather make another shopping trip next week then suffer from buyers’ remorse the whole drive home.
